FIQH 101 - INTRO TO ISLAMIC LAW
This weekend intensive aims to develop a basic level of literacy on the history of the Four Schools and the philosophy of Islamic law. This course will shed light upon the origins of revelation, and in doing so, will give a cursory look into the sources of legislation. Among the essentials of this course, is to discuss the basic principles that have governed Islamic legal discourse for over 1400 years. This course will also discuss the dynamics of scholarly difference, the framework of juristic opinions, and the development of The Four Schools.

Description: This session provides a detailed explanation of the concept of revelation (wahy) and the manner of revelation to the Prophet (s). It also speaks about the Qur’an as the greatest divine miracle and the primary source of Islamic law. It covers the wisdoms of gradual revelation as well as the history of Qur’anic compilation and the different aspects of the Qur’an is miraculous nature.
Legislation During the Time of the Prophet (s) – Part 2 | Session 4
Description: This session continues with the Sunnah, which is the second primary source of Islamic law. It defines the reference of the term Sunnah and provides insight into the relationship between the Qur’an & Sunnah.
Islamic Law During the Time of the Companions & The Successors | Session 5
Description: This session starts with highlighting the methodology of the companions in addressing matters of law. It speaks of the unique aspects of growth during the time of Rightly Guided Caliphs. It then addresses some of the challenges that had arisen during the Umayyad Caliphate, which include the division of the Ummah, deviation of the Caliphs and the dispersion of the Scholars.
The 4th Stage – Vibrancy & Growth for Islamic Law | Session 6
Description: This session describes how the Islamic sciences continued to develop during the Abbasid Caliphate. It identifies freedom of thought, support of the Caliphs, scholarly debate, and the inscription of sciences as contributing factors for the growth of Islamic Law.
The Four Imams & Islamic Legal Theory | Session 7
Description: This session briefly describes the lives of the four Imams. It also covers basic introductions to Islamic Legal Theory, such as the Takleefi Rulings and the Ahkam Wad’iyyah and some of the Islamic Legal Sources as they are discussed in the science of Usool al-Fiqh.
